Do you love Dogs? Find Your People.
Who Are the Hoomans?
We're a group of hoomans from Wesley Vale who came together because we believed greyhounds deserved a voice.
What started as a grassroots campaign to stop a proposed greyhound racing track became part of a much bigger story. Alongside many others across Tasmania, we helped achieve a historic outcome for a community that stood together and pushed a vote for change.
But something unexpected happened along the way.
We found each other.
We discovered that when people come together around something they care about, something special happens. People connect. Ideas grow. Confidence returns. New friendships begin.
That is where Hoomans Helping Hounds began.
Not just as a place for dogs.
As a Place where people can walk through the door, feel welcome and know they matter.
You might come for the dogs.
You might come for the clothes.
You might come to volunteer, learn, create, share, help out or simply have a chat.
Whatever brings you here, we hope you find a reason to come back.
We are a wonderfully mixed bunch.
Different ages.
Different backgrounds.
Different experiences.
But we have one thing in common:
We love dogs, we care about people, and we believe life is better when you have good people, good dogs and somewhere you feel welcome.
Some people come for the dogs.
Most stay because they've found their people.
Do You Like Dogs?
Find Your People.
Be part of our story.
Why Greyhounds?
Because greyhounds are just dogs.
Long dogs.
Weird dogs.
Beautiful dogs.
The kind of dogs who can sleep for 20 hours a day, steal your couch in 20 seconds and somehow convince you that your side of the bed is also theirs.
Just as goofy.
Just as loyal.
Just as lovable as any other dog.
But here's something most people don't realise...
Have you ever seen a greyhound puppy?
Most people haven't.
For generations, greyhounds have lived a different life to the dogs we meet in parks, cafés and family photo albums.
Yet when you strip all that away, they're still just dogs.
They want a comfy bed.
A full belly.
A favourite hooman.
A place where they belong.
When we say "just dogs", we mean it in the most extraordinary way.
Because dogs have a way of changing lives.
They get us out of the house.
They help us through hard days.
They make us laugh.
They sit beside us when words aren't enough.
They're family.
And family matters.
Dog finds hooman.
Hooman finds dog.
Both find belonging.
Greyhounds do the advocating.
We just created a Place for the introductions.
Because sometimes the best relationships begin with a wag, a sniff, a little bit of luck... and someone willing to say yes. 🐾
